As some of you may have seen in a previous thread, after a 38 year wait, I've finally bought my own horse! It all happened pretty quickly (a week!) from when the yard said there was a space until the vetting and I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will say I rushed into it. But there it is! He passed the vetting the day before I went to Botswana on holiday and was hopeful, that with a lot of help from a friend while I was away, he'd be arriving at the yard the day after I got home.

Unfortunatly the yard we're moving to had a strangles scare last year so all new horses are required to be tested. The test came back while I was away with raised antibodies so he's had to have the second test done this week. They've said he only has to have the same result or lower and then he can move in but it's all getting very expensive! Fingers crossed the results will come back on Friday and then I can get him delivered on Monday.

No real questions, just an update and wine and chocolate to all those who've made it this far!

He failed the second test so he's having a swab today. It's getting costly and I haven't even paid for him yet!! Fingers crossed it will be 3rd time lucky

Oh poor you - this test so annoys me . Ask any vet and they agree it actually means very little as so little is understood about strangles. We sold a pony once that had 2 positive tests and then had to be 'flushed' - gutural pouches. Expensive business for mothing really. We had owned him for years and he never left home - we never had strangles.

I know, the vet has said the same. I do understand the yard's stand point as they had strangles earlier in the year and want to make sure we don't get it again but it seems so random. Somebody else on the yard has had the same issue, 2 positive bloods and then the swab came back clear. I'm hoping the same will apply to me.

As he's not technically mine yet I'm not insured either. Ho hum, will be worth it in the end I hope!
