Hi all. For those who dont know my boy is 5 years old and is just getting into the swing of jumping, not jumped him for about a month as been busy with family ect but jumped today for the first time since and think he done really well! myself and my instructor have noticed he's getting quite bored and carless jumping little so have said i should try going bigger with him although my confidence isnt great so if anyone has any advice/tips for getting my confidence up?? would be great.
Anyway heres a video from tonight cc welcome but dont be to harsh :D

What a super horse!:D

You are doing very well so far but there are a couple of things you could do to make things easier for both of you.

For the horse, make the jumps more inviting, use more poles to fill the spaces

For you, watch the video again and watch your lower leg - if you can stabilise that a little more you will have the confidence to push up through higher jumps and you will be less likely to tip your horse on to the forehand

the watcher - thanks for that, i usually try to use fillers when im jumping to fill in the gaps but didnt have time to pull them all out tonight. Yes i have noticed i do that with my leg also think i need to give with my hands a bit more?:D

Hi there.
It's lovely to see such a forward going yet calm approach to the jumps. You look like a lovely partnership. Just watch your lower leg doesn't keep creeping forward as you are getting left behind the movement over a couple of fences. xx

Thanks! Yea i definatly need to work on my lower leg, didnt realise how bad it was till i watch this back lol

I'd also say watch the lower leg mayb take the spurs off until you can stabilise it a bit more incase u catching him with them
Your reins look very long - altho horsey is going in a lovely rhythm at shows you may need a bit more braking!!
I've also found with my own 5 yr old I don't like 2 stick poles up 2 high but mix up what/how u jumping- grids, jumping on a big circle (i find this v helpful but just keep circle big enuf 4 baby), skinnys, fillers etc
Hav 2 say he looks v nice horse & should find higher jumps quite easy!!!

You might find it easier if you put your stirrups up a hole or two, try to look ahead as you land, you seem to be starting to look to see which leg he is going to land on and this is not helping your balance.
He is a nice boy and goes in a good rhythm just needs you to be with him a little more, it may help to do some grids, you dont then have to worry about his stride and you can concentrate on your balance and your confidence will grow.
