I apologise if this gets a bit boring but he is a fab pony!! DS has popped a few jumps on him now, bigger ones than I thought he'd want to! And is a little bit of a dare devil (even on the lead rein!)

Heres a few pics a video of him going Solo in the school last night :) ( I will be dropping his stirrups down a hole I think)

We did have a little fun too, practiced our trotting and tried a few strides of canter ( which is a lot harder than I remember doing on lead rein!) but we managed and was very pleased with both Son and Pony.....

BUT....

When DS was told to walk snowy off to cool him down he did and said 'when I get to C, say stop.' so I did and the little swine kicked the pony who went very obediently into trot and then into canter as he had been doing, so cue me diving on pony to pull him up. DS was pretty cross I stopped him. Little monkey!

Anyway, Snowy has the dentist tomorrow and hopefully I will be clipping some of his fluff off. will post pics when its done :)

Thanks for looking!

Lovely!

Your son's heels are quite 'up' in the pics so I'd leave the stirrups where they are for the moment and maybe try some time without them (on lead rein in walk only if he is inclined to try the trotting off again!).

Very jealous.

Awwww. A good Shetland is a brilliant pony. There's a full height one up her who's an extremely handsome lad and competes AND wins at the 65cm and 75cm jumping classes. They're bigger than he is!

RE stirrups, I'd take them away for now. He's quickly developed the armchair seat of many small children. You're going to spend more time saying 'heels down' then anything*else if*you leave them. And at his age, he'll never remember himself or worse, start forcing the heels down so he develops a hunt seat.

Hehe I told him I was going to take his stirrups away last night and he said he would fall off, think Ill take them off and have a bit of fun 'peddling bikes' and touching his toes :)

Thanks guys :D

Sounds like a good plan. He really shouldn't need his stirrups. You could get him to pretend to be a jockey (knees touching at the pommel. And the measuring game (measuring stick and he stretches his toea down and hands up to see how tall he can be). Plus riding backwards etc And all the fun, stupid tthings we did as kids but Elf and Safety now says No.
