Viewing a drving pony is this cart the right size for him

I have been reading the shetland driving thread. I am going to view a pony this week, he can also be driven and his cart (not sure of the name in English) is also being sold with him. Not sure if I want to buy it or eventually invest in a new one, could someone have a look at the driven photo and tell me if it looks the right size for the pony please. Thanks

I'm no expert but it looks too small to me as the people in the cart are being tipped back, but I'm probably wrong :o
 
Great thanks. They want an offer for the cart, not sure what to offer though. They want 700 euros for the pony alone and not sure how to haggle it!!! Of course it all depends how the viewing goes and if the pony is as I am hoping he will be!! Very excited!!:)

That is what worried me, the tipping back. However, have not learnt how to drive a pony yet but thought maybe it was the harness that was broken and the cart had not been properly attached. But I could be wrong!!!
 
The cart is too small, and shouldn't be tipping back like that. A little tip is okay, but that's too much IMO. You could reduce it by lengthening and dropping the tugs, but I doubt it would be enough to level it out comfortably for you.
 
The exercise vehicle is too small for the pony, as it is tipping back, which will cause the passengers to have their weight too far back over the axle , which could cause the shafts to lift, pulling the tugs up which means that the belly band (the second girth that is attached to the tug strap) to pull up against the ponies belly, a vehicle should have its shafts horizontal and when there are passengers in the vehicle, there should be a slight nose weight to the vehicle of about 15-20 Kgs at the tug stops depending on the size of horse/pony.
 
It would also be a huge concern to me if he was to rear, you've got increased risk of him losing his balance and coming over backward, and the cart smacking off the floor on an uneven surface.
 
OK, it seems the majority feel it is too small. I am not going to risk buying it along with the pony. If it does work out and I buy the pony I think I would have a couple of lessons and then get someone who knows what they are doing to help me buy the cart. Thanks

Totally agree with this, but its so low that the driver can't see over the pony's quarters. You have to see where you are going, especially driving a cart! Wouldn't pay very much at all for the cart or the harness, £200 tops if it fitted the pony.
 
I agree it's too small and I would prefer a four wheeler that's what I had to start a fixed shaft four wheeler I quickly progressed to a competion HDT three phase carriage as I seriously caught the bug , beware OP driving is addictive.
 
I would offer the 700 euros or less for the lot pony harness and cart. Bit if I really wanted the pony would offer a bit less for just him
