Viewing first horse - height/weight worry

Hi,

I am a first time owner and am viewing two horses next week.
I really like the look of one of them and he seems lovely apart from I’m worried I’m going to be too heavy for him.
He’s a 14.3/15hh Welsh section D. I am not worried about my height (as I’m only short) but I weigh around 12st. Do you think I would be too much for him?

If he’s true to type, then no, you won’t be too big.

I would expect him to be well able to carry you but if you are concerned, ask the owner's opinion.

15hh Welsh D will be a lot of pony so you should be fine

As long as you're a reasonably balanced rider & have a saddle to fit both of you then it shouldn't be a problem. Try him a see, generally a Welsh D is the type to let you know if he has a problem
