Off to view a new horse near by on Friday, seems nice and well schooled.

But I am so nervous! I just have a vision of me not being able to ride it and looking like a complete fool!

Anyone else feel this way? Or get nervous?
 
I had to get thrown onto the horse I was trying (for friend!) yesterday by a burly man :cool:

I then looked like a total muppet as I was reluctant to give him the belt he deserved for napping in front of his owner, and I intentionally annoyed him slightly (asking him something he didn't understand) to see what the response would be. My friend thought I just couldn't find the trot button as his response was just to move into trot and be corrected back to walk :o blessss.
 
I got really nervous about the riding aspect when I was horse hunting - I've ridden my whole life and am used to tantrums etc but hated the idea of people watching my every move and was sure I'd ride like an idiot!
As blood_magik said, just take your time when trying one. It feels so strange to ride a horse you've not been on before so spend as long as you need to just wandering about and getting used to each other, don't feel pressured to "get on with it" - a genuine seller will understand that you need a while to get the "feel" of the horse and will want to make sure you're comfortable with each other. When I went to view my mare I walked around forEVER because she was so very different from anything I'd ridden before, and also so incredibly on edge I was worried that asking for trot would send us over the horizon! - I was worried about it at the time because I was sure that the sellers would think I was completely hopeless but they were lovely about it and said I could walk around for hours if I needed to, there was no pressure at all and I was soon whizzing around.

I am exactly the same! I felt like I was rubbish after second viewing on very energetic tb! I got the more 'challenging' rides in the first few viewings and have since ridden some which were a bit slow but easy etc so don't be disheartened! As many people told me, they want to sell and are probably going to be watching for how well the horse is showing themself off more than how well you ride. I have had some sellers go all 'riding instructor' on me which has actually been quite helpful if you welcome it :-) they should know how different it feels riding different horses! The one I liked is 16.2 and very bouncy when I normally ride 15.1 and there was an embarrassing amount of air between me and the saddle!
 
I used to feel like that......until we had a number of awful viewings where the horse was no where near as schooled as made out to be!

Takes time to get the feel of a new horse anyway so don't worry. As mandwhy said, most are more bothered about selling! Just concentrate on what you want to know the horse will do. If its not for you then you won't see them again anyway so who cares how you ride!
