What are the symptoms? Are they physical or mental? if mental, probably only take the same amount of time - though I am no expert, a physical reaction could potentially take longer to clear up.

It takes 65-75 hours for feed to pass through the digestive system so in theory it should be no longer than 65-75 hours after you last fed barley. In fact it should be quicker than this as it is in the small intestine that cereals are mainly broken down and the energy from starch is released into the bloodstream. The large intestine is responsible for digesting fibre, which is slower release energy. So by the time the barley gets there most of the quick energy is on its way to your horses brain telling it to launch itself in the air!
