If there is anyone who knows anything about this subject I would greatly appreciate any comments. thanks for taking the time to read our story.

We have had Alfie since he was a yearling and got him in 2006. He always seemed to have a slightly poor immune system, he`d need antibiotics for something but one lot was never enough, he seemed to take a long while to get over anything but he was generally a bright energetic and healthy boy.

In June 2012 he got Vasculitis maybe as a secondary infection to strangles that was on the yard. All four legs were very swollen and he was obviously in pain. This lasted for 6 weeks when there was a breakthrough and he seemed slightly better, gentle walking and exercise for the next few weeks and we started to see the old Alf's back again. Very scary time but he pulled through and we were told it wasn't a reoccurring disease.

In January 2014 he got it again. This time his legs blew up to the size of tree trunks and his pain was so very obvious. The vet first thought he had liver failure but this was proved not the case and yet again this was Vasculitis.

Today we are still struggling with Alf's that some days his legs are slightly puffy some days there not. Some days he is chronically lame particularly on concrete / road but not so bad on grass. He has made a recovery to a degree but he is not the horse he was. He has lost a spark and energy that I wonder if he will ever get back?

He is of course under the vet but it does seem a disease that he has to fight himself other than Bute to help take the pain away on bad days.

Easier said than done, but if he has this again to the degree he did the last time I don't think it would be fair to let him suffer it. The recovery is too long and maybe never out of pain? :(

Is there anyone out there who have had experiences of this and what the outcome was?
