hi yall! my horse has recently been losing hair around her eyes, mouth, and over all, her cheek area. she is dewormed so its not that. I was told by someone to treat it with Virkon S. my only problem - i have read that is unsafe to use (physically) on her as it is more of a stable cleaner however I was actually told to take a small amount and basically bathe her in it with a towel. any tips or ideas ??

Virkon is not designed for use on any animal directly - you are also supposed to wear gloves and take approproate protective measures when using it. (Although I confess I only usually bother with marigolds - we use it to swab down event stabling before we use it)

Whilst it may well be effective as a very broad spectrum bug killer - I would not have it anywhere near anything's eyes! Let alone on skin presumably made sensitive by whatever is cuasing the hairloss. Perhaps better to try a phone call with your vet!

I work in a lab and we use it to disinfect glassware - I wouldn't want it anywhere near mine or my horses face! Even a reasonably diluted solution is an irritant to the skin. As a rule we wear gloves when washing up in it but on the odd occasion I have quickly grabbed something I need out of it without gloves on I have known about it afterwards...

No no no don’t do that .
its very very good at what it does but it eats things and it’s not for use on live animals .
you ought to ring the vet .
you really need to know why it is happening so you use the right thing .
