So I managed to win a weeks holiday just outside Brampton in some lovely self catering cottages, so we're coming ooop north on 15th April, was just wondering if anyone could recommend anywhere to go for a couple of hours trekking? I know the Cumbrian heavy horses is around, but thats a 2 hour drive... which is probably a bit far (although am considering it). Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere else?

If not trekking, anywhere that offers dressage school master lessons? - they would need to be proper decent level stuff, not looking for a normal riding school if that makes sense!

Just to get a fix while I'm away from my horses!

Cant wait!

I live there and im not sure on many places where they have dressage schoolmasters though!

There is blackdyke which is a normal riding school however the horses are not normal riding school horses if you catch my drift? That's about 20mins from Brampton

Thanks, I've seen that one mentioned on the website of the place we're staying - not really looking to spend money on a 'riding lesson' as such when i can ride my own for free/have lessons with my instructor, but if there was a particularly good trekking centre or schoolmaster type place then I may consider going.

Bigland hall - have dressage schoolmasters (classical) and do hacks regularly, can box up to the beach, but since they moved it costs quite a bit more as they used to be down on morcambe bay, the guy who runs it (alongside his wife) does high level trec.

Holmescales - nice place, but hacking limited IMO, nothing special.

Murthwaite green - good beach hacking, and cheaper than heavies

Sockbridge (at pooley bridge near ullswater) - have some lovely horses again, my favourite is Pom a lovely chestnut tb gelding, amazing views of ullswater as you climb up the fells (well canter up!)

Crook barn at coniston - good place, last time I went was the middle of winter though so hacking was limited, but would be better this time of year as the horses are fitter and weather hopefully better!

Witherslack hall - again, good hacking, in woodland mostly from what I remember.

Out of the lot of these, Bigland hall and sockbridge are probably my two favourites.

Webble - yep, as per my OP, its on my list, but its a good 2 hour drive from where we're staying, so will struggle to do more then a 2 hour ride with the travelling involved too.

Dollymix - thanks for the link, will take a look

Stroppy Mare - thanks very much, will look at each of them!

Thanks Jeni - however they're a good 2 hours from where we're staying, so if i'm travelling that way I'll probably head up to the heavy horses place, however will definitely keep them in my 'internet favourites list' if ever i'm back in the area.

You could hack out mine for me whilst you're up, I'm off games at the min because I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant and she's bored to tears!
