Has anybody ever used Vitex Agnus Castus or "Chaste Berry" for their "opinionated" mares? ;) I usually use Wendals Herbs Moody Mare, which seems to have made a difference in making my girl less grumpy - either that or she just grew up and dealt with it better! However, the chaste berry calmer seems to be cheaper, so I was wondering whether anybody has any experience with it - did it work? What are the advantages/disadvantages and any side effects? Thanks!
 
Yes, used to use it on the mare I had on loan. I started her on NAF Oestress which helped a little and when I looked into it, Agnus Castus seemed to be the active ingredient in most/all of the mare supplements so I bought just that and fed it straight. It made a massive difference. I was told to feed two small scoops as a loading dose, reduce it to one daily and then back to two while she was in season.

It really did help :)
 
i have also used this for a pony we had, he was a gelding !! but, he was suspected of early stage cushings and i was recommended to try it to help rebalance his hormones and I have to say it really did seem to work and far cheaper that some of the off the shelf remedies for cushings related symptoms, I get mine from barefoot basics as well, wonderful and really helpful people, have bought several remedies from them over the years!
 
Ive used it on a mare suffering from whatsit called..the curly coat, risk of lammie and great thirst condition? She did well on it. I also used it on myself for menopause sweats and it helped. I have a friend who took it for the same men sweats and it did nothing so I presume its an individual thing. M.

Did you use the same stuff the horse got - I am suffering from the dreaded night sweats at the moment and my mare gets Hormonise liquid for her seasons (I swear by it) - would it be ok for me to take some of of her Hormonise?
