Vizlsa greatest sire ever... Yogi RIP

RIP Yogi. My GSD died of a tumour on the spleen at the same age, way too young, it's becoming prevalent in many breeds.
Hoping it's not a hereditary issue, as he was so well-used :( always the danger with popular sires, with some things, you don't know thee's a problem until it's too late :(

Very sad, RIP Yogi. It seems a worrying amount of gundog breeds are dying far too young of cancer, and as CC says Yogi was used so much I hope there is no hereditary issue there.

I hope this isnt passed on either as you say an extremely popular sire!

He was super fabulous example of the breed though and heartfelt sympathys for Yogi's human family :(

We lost our white retriever last year to cancer of the stomach and kidneys. She hadnt even reached 5yrs old. After that we did quite a lot of internet searching and it was scarily common in that breed also to lose the battle with cancer before 5 yrs :(

Still looking on the positive side we have a lovely 12 month old Vizsla which wouldnt have happened without the wonderful Yogi

He was indeed a great ambassador for the breed.

I have my own issue with the way in which males of my own breed are promoted, and how trends create breeding bottlenecks.
My blood runs cold every time I hear of a popular sire dying young (6, 7, 8) and now the first question is why and how, as there are SO many dogs and so many generations which could be potentially impacted.
