Could any one tell me what weight lorries Vosa are allowed to pull over? I thought it was lorries over 3.5t so was suprised to be pulled over last week in my Renualt master conversion.
Quite nerve racking, especially as had to drive onto a mobile weighbridge (with horse on board!), but fortunately passed all their requirments.
I am sure there was an article in the H and H a few weeks ago that stated Vosa only stopped lorries over 3.5t, but may have misread it!
Thanks

They can pull anything - inc cars if they think they looked like they have been laden with weight. Most common for them to pull in are cars and caravans - you can guarantee some of thise are overweight! There's a VOSA pull in at Saxondale roundabout near me and there's always loads of different vehicles - quite often transit tippers as well, think they may be a favorite LOL ;-)

Think they can pull and check anything. OH got stopped in the pickup last week, they were looking at commercial vechiles, even though we only use it privately. It was only MOT'ed last month so passed all their tests with flying colours. Wasnt a nice experience though!

Even tractors. Any motorised vehicle, with the possible exception of electric cars. The Sinclair C5 was not a motor vehicle.

Basically they're allowed to check anything that falls into the description of 'a vehicle.' They usually stick to trucks and buses / coaches but lights goods vehicles (Transits, Sprinters, Traffics) are a favorite as they are so easily overloaded, older ones have little or no maintenance. 4x4's towing trailers are usually targeted for not having tachographs fitted, when needed. Cars & caravans often have problems with overloading and knackered tyres on the 'van. There can also be driver licence / insurance issues with younger drivers that have not taken the 'trailer test.'
It is an offence not to stop when directed to do so. They will also use silver Ford Galaxies with black & yellow battenburg pattern and amber flashing beacons. Again, it is an offence not to stop or follow directions. Examiners also have the power to direct the driver of a stationary vehicle to pull over (say, into the next lay-by) for a roadside construction & use check. They do carry a Warrant card to prove identity, it is an offence not to follow these instructions.
Whilst a vehicle examination may be a bit nerve wracking all they are doing is making sure that the vehicle is safe for Neddy to travel in the back of.

They can pull over any weight boxes or vans.
You must be pleased you passed everything, makes you happy that you are completely legal, as many are not!
