Hi - posted a while ago about my silly mare who decided to roll under a fence and get her leg stuck. She managed to scrape the skin and flesh of her hind cannon bone down the the bone! Luckily she missed her tendon and the artery my millimeters!
Anyway she was on box rest for just over a week, wound hosed, and dressed twice daily with itracite (sp) gel. The vet came out friday and is pleased with the progress, he has prescribed vulcatan cream/gel. We have to flush the wound twice daily, take of any scabs (easier said than done with a scatty 5YO TB) and apply this cream - then she can go out with no dressings?!?!
I have total faith in my vet - but the cream is unlicenced in this country and there is no info in English on the internet. I am totaly anal about these sorts of things and like to have as much info as possible. Apparently it works by stimulating the blood supply, hence waiting a week for the wound to start healing before we start to use it.
Has anyone else used it - how did it go - has anyone even heard of it? Vet has asked us to keep a wound map so we can chart the progress.
