rather than hijacking an earlier post on VW lorries can someone tell me whether you would find a Vw lorry bit enough for a 16.3/17 hand and also i have heard you can uprate a 3.5 ton to a 4 ton. how is this done and what cost?

also if a VW35 is a 3.5 ton and a VW50 is a 5 ton would a VW40 be a 4 ton and if so what would likely payload be?

i need a lorry smallish for 16.3 and 15 hand plus tack and 2 bods.

I had a VW35 which was huge inside and you could have easily travelled 2 x 17hh space wise. However not payload wise!

If you are wanting to travel the horses you say together you will need a VW50.

The VW40 are very few and far between

I think you will find it almost impossible because it would need to be plated , and have a tachograph because over 3.5 ton it becomes a hgv not a class seven van then it would need stronger springs possibly stronger tyres and dual wheels/ axle on the back... its possble to down rate a heavyer lorry say a 10 ton to 7.5 for instance but going the other way is hard and expensive unless it is a bigger one thats been down rated and you want to re rate it back is this a LT35 =3.5 ton or a LT 40 or 50= 4/5 ton if its the latter then you could .....otherwise forget it
