Well. We got there early and got on, had a 40 minute warm up (didnt warm up all that time!) and he warmed up great. Jumped all the fences on angles etc and got the stride to each (which is very unusual for us!) So I was second after my friend and the fences were tiny (pony too small to do any bigger!!) Anyway, got to fence 4 - the water. My friend slowed up considerably and I couldn't stop. Ended up trotting and Sparky stood on the log into the water

But was fine! Do carried on and he was great. Came to a rather steep hill and I couldn't stop - aaah *queue Ellie screaming at friend 'I can't stop im overtaking* So cantered down the hill and over the next 3 fences and through the valley and as we went up the hill she came up beside me and endid up right infront of me jumping an upright. Great. I will post the picture when it is on the net but it is halarious!! Anyway, we finished in 4 minutes 54 seconds and Sparky was up for it all over again.

I had used a new bit which I was hoping woulsd stop him sticking his head down and yanking (waterford gag) but it failed and got back and it had pinched him mouth quite badly

so thats going back to the saddlers. Any suggestions on bits?

We didnt get placed, even though we were VERY close to the 'bogey time' which was 4 minutes 42 but pleased that we all got round clear AND eneded in the same order just as we had a set out which was great. The 1st team to do so!

Oh, and it made me laugh, just before the first fence as over the tannoy 'And the next team starting is the Greenhill DamsoNS in Distress' LMAO (we were the greenhill Damsells is distress!!) so it made us sound like plums

It really was worth it and I am so pleased! It was our first clear yet

(Sparky hadn't been xc when i got him for over 4 years! and was green in both SJing and particualrly xc) So long may the clears continue!
Just before we went to warm up, we had to wait in the lorry park to find a space as a horse was being winched into a van - It finished the course and had a heart attack - RIP horsey

Oh gosh! It was a horse that had competed in the Open class. Wasn't nice and wasn't particularly 'encouraging' as I was about to go and jump the course

No, not nice to see before you compete. Oh lordy, if anyone finds out who the horse OR the team was can they PM me and let me know.

Hiya saw you go through the water was with Rosanna aka robinhood she got a piccy of you through the water i think
I actually love the spotty pony in your team is it for sale!!! obviously sparky is lovely too but i am a big fan of spotties!!

Bit wise i seewhat you mean about pulling down... my TB is a bit inclined to plow down whilst being failry sensitive in mouth and i have found a nathe aerican gag really good maybe worth a try x

Is sad about the horse having a heart attack we saw a bay horse really struggling up to the finish .. wouldnt be surprised if it was that one x

Well done Ellie! What a fantastic day

It sounds like Sparky does the same thing as Fiddler did, i used to jump him in a cheltenham gag which worked wonders with him, but towards the end i jumped him in a waterford Neue schule jumper bit which was brilliant too

Righty, might look into it. I am wandering what it was that cut his mouth (there was enough blood to turn all his froth red
frown.gif
) and I have though about the tim thumb but my friend used it on her mare who did the swame thing and found it encouraged her to stop at fences and with Sparky already having an apparent stop on him I dont want to encourage it any more. I may have a try with it though as thats just one person veiw and obv. you have had a good experience so worth a try

Thankyou for all the suggestions!

Oh, And PaddyWak - Does RH have a website to veiw pictures? Also did you hear my trainer yelling 'SIT UP,SIT UP' at us. I didn't but apparently she was LOL
I have Pm'd you by the way

Oh well done what a fab picture and fun report! Are you sure the bit cut him? My horse chews his cheeks occasionally and looks like jaws with red froth around his mouth!
