W**KER

Hope his face broke in two. Poor horse - were they really getting him to pull that tree? It's ginormous! You'd need at least 2 just to get it to budge a few inches.

Just a few points. That horse is more than capable of pulling that log. The horse is from the mountains in the north east of Romania and is bred for the job.The Log is a dry section of Fir and relatively light. The problem is that the horse (relatively young ,but here I am guessing)will not take up the load and haul.I have seen plenty of people take a stick to a horse at a show for far less worthwhile reasons than trying to put food on the table for ones family. He is not moving that log for fun,and has certainly been doing this job all his life. The simple fact is that if the horse will not work ,his family will suffer. Sadly as a result of the accident ,they are going to suffer anyway.Just be glad you are not in this position,he cant just take up Dressage because this horse is a *******.In some places life is pretty hard for both horses and people.

There's no bloody need to whack the horse, whats wrong with leading it? There's just NO defending it.

well said mike....

bet you're called a w4nker now

Have to say I agree with Mike, the horse is a working horse. Alot of horses all over the world lead hard lives, maybe the horse was struggling with the weight of the log but at the end of the day he had a job to do. He looks alot better than alot of working horses as well. What I do find strange is that someone was videoing it .....

From the scenery,I would guess that this is around Brasov .A very tourity area and on a main forest road like this ,there are no doubt quite a few people watching.

Can't belive i'm reading this. Where's the need to hit it, the guy just needed to LEAD IT, this guy whiped the heck out of it. Just because it's a working horse, doesn't mean it feels any less pain than a riding horse, or deserves a whacking.

I have never seen a working horse whacked like that.

Unfortunately ,you cant really lead a horse into a draught load, hauling timber is very different from pulling a cart. They have to lean forward into it. I am not advocating violence ,but things are often not as clear cut from close up.

Ok not knowing much about horses, but ive seen a few programmes,an read a little bit,i know shires are big horses,an cost a lot to feed etc,but why not use a bigger less flighty horse???one that is bred for the job of pulling, surley its a case of breeding,if you want horses to pull loads, get a big plodder,if you want one to ride fast breed a light fast horse, maybe its a case of using the wrong horse for the wrong job, just whacking it wont make a diffrence.

please feel free to correct me if im wrong as not speaking from experiance with horses, but surley you would not use a Chihuahua to drive cattle????

(cue you tube vids of Chihuahuas droving cattle):p

I would never condone violence towards animals but I've seen far worse treatment of horses in affiliated showjumping, with riders behaving like petulant toddlers when things don't go their way.
I'm not happy that the horse kicked him as I worry about what happened to the horse as a result.

Mike, you've made me feel bad now although I think if the horse wasn't feeling threatened or hurt he wouldn't have kicked his owner.

However, one would think that they could train a young horse to pull lighter loads till he could physically pull that log...

Anyway, not that any of this procrastination will help someone hundreds of miles away living in a forest.

That horse is actualy bred for that job. the truth is that a big horse like a shire wouldnt last a day on that terrain .It also wouldnt be able to pull as much weight either. This is the right breed for the job.For horse logging ,the horse has to be able to pick his way through some pretty difficult conditions.

The horse probably got a one way ticket to Italy, not because it kicked him,but because it wont work and would be valueless.
