I got a 3 year old last may, he was a colt off the continent. He has fantastic movement, breeding and is a handsome chap.

I have spent the last few months teaching him the basics such as picking out feet and stable manners. Also have done long reigning, lunging and walking him out in hand. We even took him to a local show, a youngster class, and came third! Out of 3 :D he was very naughty!

Anywhoooo sent him off to be broken on Wednesday, and he has managed to cut himself near his coronet band, had to get the vet out on Thursday, and she said about 5 days, had the vet out again to rebandage etc and she thinks it will be another 10 days or so. Expensive pony!

I am just frustrated that he's had all these months and when he's about to go and earn his keep, the silly sausage wrecks himself! I never seem to have any bloody luck with horses. The last one smashed his stifle on a post and was pts after unsuccessful surgery. Rant over.

Hope he gets better soon.

It's so disappointing to see your hopes ebb away but with some luck in a few months you'll have forgotten this ever happened.

My homebred filly is 2.5 years and has had surgery under GA twice + several other interventions ... All accident-related! Healthy as an ox, but accident prone like I've never known. Hoping when she grows into her legs she'll stop falling over them.

Sounds familiar! I just seem to buy accident prone horses! It isn't even a bad cut just in an awkward place and need to keep it clean and sand free!

Horses eh, who would have them!! Glad yours is ok. I would love to teach horses self preservation!
