I usually do endurance riding, not dressage, but I have a young horse who I have entered for a Walk Trot Intro A test on Saturday. I have just spent lunchtime in the local park learning the test (luckily, due to the wind, there was no-one else in the park to witness me jogging and walking round in seemingly random circles!). Having not ridden a competitive dressage test before, I've got a quick question re. Intro A.

On Point 9. H Medium Walk (we're ok so far) it then goes on to say C Circle right 20 metres diameter, Between X&C Transition to working trot.

The question is, at C do I do a complete circle at medium walk back to C, then carry on on the circle back to X before the transition to working trot? (In other words 1 and a half circles.) Or do I simply do do a half circle (C to X) before the upwards transition?

Probably simple for some, but having not done it before (and being only the third to go on Saturday) I don't want to get it wrong!

Please could someone put me right!

No you commence a 20m circle in Medium walk and in the area between x and c you start the working trot. As they have given you a large area to do this - they are looking for a you to set the horse up well for the transition and not rush it

Good luck

No its only 1 circle, so you commence on your 20m at C in medium walk round to X and then between X and C you move forward to Working trot then it will prob say on the test C working trot round the arena Hope that helps the way I have explained it.

sorry I ment dont do c - x instead of x - c

I got my c and x muddled and started the trot too early.

As for XC don't talk to me about that!! I lost my nerve after 5 jumps

I did really know what you meant by XC, but decided to give a flippant answer instead!!!

Was your mix up recently when riding R? Apart from that, have you had any decent results recently? How's she been on the new regime?

LOL.... sorry now you put that I can hear you saying it! ... oh dear how sad am I.

Yep was riding R.... if it wasn't for that mix up I may have been 4th rather than 6th!! TBH haven't actually got the funds to compete at the mo... the only reason we did the dressage last weekend was because we had qualified for the clubs dressage champs.

As for the new regime...Absolutly brilliant.... no squirting, agression or curling up in pain and if you can take her to a XC schooling day and she works her little socks off and tries her best then what more can I ask. there were even stallions and late cut riggy horses and she didn't even bat an eye lid.
