Am I going mad but I could’ve sworn I seen a video of someone walking their horse to the first fence on an XC course (BE event) during their countdown at the start box.
Can anyone find this somewhere in the rule book as I think I’m being blind! Taking a really spooky horse eventing tomorrow (showjumper lots of self preservation lol) and first fence the spookiest on course, she would benefit hugely from getting to see it first!

Yes it’s fine- try to do it a bit subtly and walk past it with the face of the fence is to your side rather than up to it square on, and don’t go behind it, but you are allowed on the course

You can circle quite far down the track from the start box but don't obviously show the horse the first fence.

Lots of pros do it and I now do and it's really helpful.

You can do a lot of "schooling" in the 2 minutes when you're called over to the start box.

Thanks guys I was always under the impression that you can’t leave the start box until your time has counted down!
So essentially I can walk up to the fence as if I was circling but not square on that she is looking directly at it? Do I have to say to the person counting down that I am doing this?

Nope, the time is your own to manage once countdown has commenced. As it's in walk it's very clear you are not commencing.
