Walsh & Nicholls

Its sad but completely understandable, Im sure if it wasnt for the likes of Kauto Star,Master Minded etc it would have happened a lot sooner. They have remained friends which is the important thing and DJ now has the chance he always wanted. Good luck to all of them.

At lest it gives other jockeys a look in, but I can't see Willie Mullins having the horse power that Nicholls has, so Ruby's wages will be going down a bit and no doubt AP will be eyeing up where he can step in.:)

Had a hell of alot more firepower than Nicholls did this year....

Ruby was a bit rude about our lovely SW racecourses though - He was quoted as saying that he was fed up with racing at Taunton, Exeter and Newton Abbot - shame on him!

Dressedkez - to be fair the prize money is awful! Why bother fying over to ride in a race that is worth 2k to the winner when he could ride in a similar race in on home turf for 6-7k to the winner? The prize money is so much better over in Ireland and it's much more worthwhile to stay home.

My comment was tongue in cheek - of course I know why he is doing what he is doing - very glad to see that AP is still banging in the winners in the SW - these are all racecourses (Wincanton accepted) that need the big names to keep the interested public coming......without racecourses - there is no racing!

well reading between the lines I suspect he will be riding for PFN again and I wouldnt be surprised if DJ got jocked off in favour of Ruby if he was available, especially on the likes of Big Bucks. But aside from PFN not having the horses now and WM having a very strong team, I think Ruby has earnt his 'semi-retirement'. All that travelling must have been exhausting & then to have to ride in 5-6 races a day too. Most people would struggle to do that for a month, let alone 11 years. Blimey !
I think we've been very blessed to see so much of him on this side of the Irish Sea and I will definately miss seeing him on a regular basis. You can say what you like about McCoys records, but Walsh has to be the finest jockey of his generation (& maybe previous ones too).
