Want to convert a show slip ....

I've a very nice English leather show slip I now want to use with a bit attached but I'm not sure how to complete the conversion. My slip is the same design as the one shown below but mine is in 1/2" Havana English leather with brass buckles either side of the throat lash too.

I've attached the bit via the rings either side of the nose section, but am now confused about what's best to use under the jaw to finish it off (where the lead chain previously ran through the two rings).

I've a Newmarket link but it's too loose and hangs down too far under the jaw. Really want something more fitted but probably haven't got time to have anything made bespoke.
I use a fancy leather lead rein with brass buckles where it attaches to each bit ring, so don't really want anything else too fancy.

Any ideas what I could use and where I can get it from?
