I was just browsing through some wanted ads on one of the major websites(my boy is currently for sale) and have been completely taken aback by some of the posts. Some people appear to be downright deluded- they are looking for horses that I'm not even sure exist- or if they do, they are not for sale because they are so utterly perfect! ;)
One advert as an eg- the buyer in question wanted a horse capable of jumping in ODE/competitions, 100% hack, forwards going but 'never strong', perfect brakes, must be suitable to be handled by pretty much everyone, not heavyweight/cobby but not LW either, not a 'plod' but capable of being left for a month without being ridden, must live out all year round without rugging, 100% to clip/load etc, happy to be left alone for hours, full history available, must pass 5 stage vetting, etc etc...plus very specific requests regarding colour (several colours not wanted), age (4yo margin), height (a 2in margin), gender, viewing, vetting etc.

Would be interested to hear people's thoughts on wanted ads like these in general; am I being unreasonable to expect people to be prepared to compromise on aspects of their ideal horse- are these paragons of virtue really out there, and for sale at reasonable prices? :)

ETA- I'm also struck by the amount of people who, from the sounds of it, want fun, forwards, athletic horses who can jump well and compete in ODEs etc..but don't want any TBs. I know TBs are not for everyone, but it's sad to see so many people writing them off when, as nearly everyone who's had TBs knows, they are all vastly different, and generally (IMO/IME anyway) incredibly good fun. :D But then I'm biased as the one I'm selling is a TB and I love him :o but can appreciate that he's not everyone's cup of tea. :)

I saw the ad you are referring to, they are expecting rather a lot, I hope they have a very "sensible" budget:D
I have responded to wanted ads and sold a horse through one, the people were sensible and having looked at a lot of unsuitable horses put in an ad which almost fitted one I was just about to put up for sale, they tried him twice with no pressure as he was not on the market, it worked well for everyone and the horse has a home for life.
Most people will compromise on something, it is often worth a call, there are a few that seem totally unrealistic and will either still be looking this time next year or end up with something entirely different when they realise that the perfect horse does not come in the right colour:rolleyes:

Aren't some rediculous!! I get that they are paying and want something *perfect* but they are living creatures! Its not like going clothes shopping is it! You have to make compromises!
I saw so many wanted adds like this when I was looking for my horse. My requirements were - ideally 4 legs, hopefully not a nutter, maybe chestnut but maybe not and tall enough that I wouldn't look like a drum on a pee. :D

be positive- Ahh, glad you've seen it too! Yes, I was half expecting to read down to the bottom and find a budget of £1000- just to complete the idealistic picture. How nice that you sold your horse to a good home thanks to realistic people. Fingers crossed I can do the same. Yes, there are a couple I'm considering giving a call- unfortunately, by the time you've excluded the buyers who specifically say they don't want TBs, or that want either a 2* eventer or a plod (or sometimes both!! ) that's about 3/4 of them out already! My boy is not a 2* horse or a plod; he is a classy, flashy allrounder, who is safe but forwards going. In my eyes he's the perfect horse- but apparantly not perfect enough for some of these ads..

elsiecat- So glad it's not just me who thinks this :D Lol, your requirements were nearly exactly the same as mine were when I was looking- although my pea/drum situation was reversed, as I'm a shortarse. :p

I struck lucky though :D Would you believe she has 4 legs AND is chestnut ;) A little bit of a nutter (a loveable one) and I'm still trying to decide about the drum on a pee thing  So i've got at least 1/2 of my *extremely* picky list :p
