Wanted desperately- a small dog ( not a puppy) South East

A friend's mother is coming to the end of her life and desperately wants a little dog to keep her company and to brighten up her life, after loosing her last dog. It must be friendly,small, older, house trained and reasonably well behaved.
The dog would have a good life with the family until the end.
Apparently they have looked in dogs homes etc but have found nothing suitable.

have you tried Raystede in east sussex - they are very good. http://www.raystede.org/dogs.htm I know a few months ago they had a 15 year old westie looking to see out his last days as his elderly owner had passed away so they do sometimes have older dogs.

Would the family keep the dog after the mother had passed.. maybe this is why the rehoming centres are being cautious?

Has the family got a friend with a dog that they could let your friend's mother house sit whilst they were at work or something?

How about calling local breeders, they may have a breeding bitch that may no longer be required?

SunshineT- yes, the lady's family will take on the dog once the time comes, that would be for definate, it would be a lovely home.

They did think about her dogsitting other dogs but it just would not be the same as having her own...
