Decided to take mae out last week for our first ever hack alone, there was no other riders about so took the plunge and headed out.

She was prancing the whole way down the lane, its been a few months since she was hacked out, however i have walked her down the road to go to field. Got a couple hundred yards from lane and she spots traffic cones and decided to spook at them when shes seen them loads of times before, heading on we get near a part on the road thats covered with trees, she starts snorting but walks on well. Its at this stage a muppet decides to come up behind us in a car and rev his engine, try to flag him around as nothing coming (straight road) but he refuses to get off Maes bum. Inches closer and revs again making mae rear (im gobsmacked), she dances about until shes facing home again and the guy is smirking and drives off.

After some sign language and vocal thoughts we proceed with the hack, mae soon settles again until we met cows grazing in a field, she refuses to walk past them. After alot of encouragement we are off again.

Make it back safely and have to say it was a great experience lol, would i do it again? Yeap but i better not meet that muppet in the car again. I didnt think it was bad for first hack alone!

Well done - I HATE drivers like that - they should all be exterminated! Horrid people, so impatient and brain-dead

Glad it didn't put you off though and you are both ok

Its the first time ive encountered a driver that intentionally tries to get the horse to play up, Mae has never ever reared with me before so i was so shocked.

As hubby pointed out, if that had happened 6 months ago i would have been off mae and walked home, so in a way im grateful to the driver as it made me see how much my confidence has grown
