I am trying to help out a french friend who is studying 'elevage' (horse breeding) at lycee here in Brittany. She has to undertake a work experience placement during February 2009 for approx 4 weeks. Initially she was looking at stud work but having discussed with her professor that there is very little going on re breeding in February she is allowed to go to a yard of her choice. Hence my request on this competition forum. She would ideally like a yard easily accessible from Plymouth ferryport so Devon or Cornwall would be perfect.

She is a competent horsewoman, having regularly showjumped up to and including the Championships of France Ponys.

I would be most grateful if anyone could respond to me who thinks they may be able to accommodate her and offer her an interesting insight into the horseyworld of south west England.

She has a reasonable grasp of basic english and would like to improve her language skills during her placement, and of course I would be available to help if needed by email or telephone.

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration.

Seems sad no one has replied. I am not quite in the right area. The TB studs would be busy in Feb, may be worth considering. if that is what she is studying.
Possibly people don't plan that far ahead, or try making some direct telephone calls.

Thanks for posting a response Ladytat. We have realised that there is not a lot going on in studs in Feb so her lycee (college) have said she can choose any yard she likes, so I was hoping someone in the area who has a competition yard would come forward as I feel she would find this work very interesting, and quite often they have an element of bringing on youngsters etc.

She turned to me for help as I am originally from Cornwall but after 6 years in France have lost touch with what is going on in the area. I had hoped some competition riders from the southwest would be able to help me out. Obviously it is all professionally done and she is insured by her college etc so no worries there.

Please I had hoped to show her that where I came from in the uk had an interesting and high standard of competition horses/ponies, but there doesn't seem to be anyone out there who can help.

Yours hopefully
