I've been told by my OH that I'll be going to watch the film alone, as he will be far too embarrassed to be seen with me when I'm a blubbering wreck only 5 minutes in! The book had me in floods, and I can't even hear the Black Beauty theme song without welling up (even just the few seconds on the recent John Lewis advert set me off!). I think I will be waiting for it to come out on DVD so I can sob in private!

On a similar note, I've been reading 'The Love of Horses', the diaries of Dorothy Brooke, founder of The Brooke charity.

Her descriptions of those poor horses sold into hard labour in Egypt after the war, and her endless struggle with local attitudes and bureaucracy in order to achieve her goal to give the remaining ones a peaceful end will move you to tears.

She was such a wonderful person. She gave her all to make amends to those horses that went into battle for us, only to be failed so miserably when the war ended.
