I went on a hack this am as the frost was melting, i was quite warm as had lots of layers on but my toes went numb with cold even with tights and two pairs of socks on and my hands were painfully cold.
Does anyone manage to keep their hands and feet warm while riding? and if so how?

hands - thermal gloves - feet - I have the warmer ariats and in this weather also wear what look like thermal sock slipovers just for the feet (from Musto) - feet stay toasty!

also invested at £21.99 in a waterproof beanie. Looks awful but it works!!!

Feet ... tights, thin socks then ski / motorbike socks and my dublin river boots. Keeps my toes nice and toasty!!

Fingers I can never keep them warm!!

For feet apparently if you put talc in your socks it helps keep your feet warm

Hands - put a pair of rubber gloves over your normal gloves. stops the wind getting in and making your hands cold

I haven't tried either of the above - yet. Managed to stay warmish so far but if it gets any colder then I will

Edited for awful spelling

The Muckboot Company wellies are fantastic but you can't ride in them...... they do a style you can ride in but i have very skinny legs so i find them too big around the top..... but friends have the riding type and love them so may be worth a try

I have the same problem :/ I have the woofwear tall mucker boots but theyve leaked and are still wet :/ I work on a yard all day and only one tap is working and its right on the other side of the yard to the bit I muck out so carrying numerous bucket back and forth takes its toll. Have been wearing loads of socks and carrier bags on my feet but still have to defrost when I get back into my caravan ...

As for my hands I just wear normal gloves which again get wet from the buckets :/

I am very cold, I do have some mountain horse thinsulate gloves but they are a bit bulky, have also been known to wear my ski gloves sometimes!

so feet today were :

wooly tights
silk socks
(then thermal baselayer trousers)
then knee high socks with padded bottoms
thick ski socks
and slightly insulated boots

and was nearly warm, need another pair on really

hands today a wore my new ariat insulated which were a bit £££ but did the job really well though struggled when we were just walking. I have also got some silks to try under them.

I have some neoprene gloves and they dont work for me

i use silk gloves under riding gloves - i use the seal skin gloves - which are great. i suffer from raynards so suffer badly - but silk works well

feet - same silk socks - then ive got the horsewear socks - very toastie and then ariat grasmeres!

i got too hot schooling today!

There was a farmer on the radio this week saying the secret to keeping your toes warm is to stuff a little bit of hay into the ends of your boots!

Silk gloves as a base layer are excellent. I would top these with a pair of cheap woolly magic gloves, and top these with a pair of cheap cotton riding gloves one size too big so they fit over the top. Buy plenty of pairs and change them whenever they get damp.

Feet-wise, I buy my winter footwear a size or two too big as if you reduce your circulation with tight layers this in itself will make your feet cold. Get some thick ski socks and wear them over the tights and normal socks. Make sure also that you're feet aren't getting sweaty when riding for instance and therefore cold and damp once you get off. If your feet reach the really cold and painful stage, dig a little hole in the muck heap and stand in it for five mins, will warm them up in no time and then just keep moving!

I've got the Tyne Muckboot with the riding heel. Wear one pair of long socks, one pair of Chenile fluffy socks and leg warmers. Was warm all day.

Gloves - ride in 'Good Hands' waterproof gloves. OK-ish, but if horse yanks reins, they are hard to hold onto so not ideal but relatively warm all the same!
