Tessie's getting old, much to my dad's inability to comprehend my repetitive statement of it (what part of 'she's FOURTEEN' does he not comprehend?) and, despite all his dismissals and her big thick jacket, she is beginning to feel the cold. On more than one occasion last winter I saw her shivering in the backseat even though the heater was on.

So, even though I know he will protest, I am going to buy her a jacket/jumper/fleece for...ugh, that 'C' word that's coming up in a few months. Can't bring myself to say it.

It doesn't have to be waterproof, just nice and warm. To give an idea of size, she's 12"tts (13" to the hip :o) and about...eh, 16-18" long...ish. She's not very deep chested.

Any ideas? I can go to about £20-25 because I have to afford a blizzard coat, snood and new collar for Danny :D

Rambo do a lovely fleece lined green one, its in most horsey magazines.

I have a newmarket fleece for roles and a masta pink fleece for Lil Dil - both work wonders! And were £22 and £15 respectively

Yeah they do actually. And they are quite hardwearing.

Lil decided to beat hers up one day (what I mean its pink? :p) and it withstood a good hammering!

i got this http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=803&pf_id=7823 for M last winter. not a good pic tbh, looks much better on M ;)
(It is a coat, not a fleece but my little hard-nut does have his street cred to consider)
It's easy to wash and quick to dry. i used it more to keep him clean(er) on wet muddy walks but its quite thick and out playing in the snow he was toasty warm. He also wore it to dog training classes (out in a field come rain or ...no, it always rained :p) and a few other owners ended up getting the same one, as did the trainer for his old terrier.

it's a T shape that goes over the head, between the front legs then fastens around the body so is very easy to put on and take off.

i ordered the wrong size at first and exchanging it was absolutely no problem, nor was returning one that he didn't like (apparently he doesnt 'do' step-into-coats :p) They also do quite a good range of sizes on most coats

ETA: or how about this for more glamourous occassions http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=126&pf_id=52922

Oooh.... I wonder if my budget will stretch to both the pink fleece and the Thermal. Danny's getting 2 pressies so stands to reason Tessie should - esp. considering I'm not getting anything this -shudder- holiday season. And she did get really cold when it was snowy so the thermal would come in handy. And the pink will really wind dad up. Eee. I dunno. Shall have to consult my next bank statement and/or beg a raise off the boss XD

ETA: I wonder if that thermal one will work on a lurcher. Hmm...

OP, shame, I have a 12 inch one of these going spare as my girly grew out of it and needs a new one. You could have had it.

If anyone else can make use of a 12 inch one of the above coats (highly recommended by me, they're just fabulous) pm me your address and I'll send it. x

Equafleece definately!! I bought one 2 years ago at Badminton for my wimpy JRT who was shivering in the tent at night and was shocked by the price (around £20 I think) but honestly it's stood the test of time!! He wears it all winter and it's washed every other day and it's still in great condition. It's extreamly comfortable for the dog and doesn't get caught on bushes like I find normal dog coats do. I'm waiting til my lurcher has stopped growing (he's a weed and gets bigger by the day) and I'll be investing in one for him.

Otherwise I can recommend TRPD for conventional dog coats, they are made to measure and all profits are given to rescues. http://petcraftproject.proboards.com/index.cgi?

You have to join to be able to place orders but I've got some fab rain coats for my dogs (and collars, leads etc) and the prices can't be beaten.
