My sister went hunting on tuesday, horse came back all ok legs fine, yesterday morning(Wednesday) legs cold turned him out, got him in, blacksmith came still legs ok. This morning(Thursday) he has got a very hot hoof all the leg is hot, pastern, fetlock cannon bone tendon the whole lot hot, though no swelling, he has a digital pulse not rageingly fast but I can definitley feel it pumping faster than the other leg. The other leg is cold. Now he didnt knock hiself out hunting or stand on a stone. But it all seems to of happened since he was shod, could the blacksmith of done something? He isnt lame though, If the blacksmith pricked him would that make his foot and leg hot and a faster pulse? Are we best leaving it a day or 2 and getting vet or do we get blacksmith back, we have had the same blacksmith for well over 20 years and he has never done anything but good shoeing, or could it be serious. Iam posting on here because my sister is extremley upset, infact beside herself that he has done a tendon (she is paranoid about tendons). Any advice would be greatful to put her mind at rest. Thanks

Injured tendons can take a couple of days to show but I would tend to think that if there is no swelling you could be alright.

Is there any chance the horse got a puncture wound out hunting? Could explain why the heat has only just appeared - again takes a day or two for the infection to set in.

Just an idea!!

It is was me i would be on phone pdq to farrier and then prob after that onto vets, but it defo sounds more like thorn.... than farrier as IMO, should be lame from pricked hoof/too tight shoe.
