Ive just been set an assignment at college about warm up stratergies for different disiplines.
I would love some ideas from you all and if you have any pictures you wouldnt mind me using it would be great!

-Thanks

Not sure if this is the right thing but when i warm up for dressage i get on an hour or so early, warm him up then take him back to the box, get on him again about 20 mins. before my turn and this means he is much more chilled as he doesn't expect anything so doesn't tense up and get nervous...
that sort of thing?

Yes thank you Grey_Eventer thats the kind of thing im looking for. Also what kind of exercises do riders do for the different disiplines

-Thanks

for BSJA i do the following:

-walk round on a loose-ish let them look at the warmup etc. then gather them up and ask for some bend

-trot along the long side to open them up and get their hind quarters working into the bit, then work on circles.

-pick up canter, open up on long side, collect the power into a bouncy canter on the short side and circles etc...do some smaller circles to test balance/supplenes.

-pop a cross twice...pop a small verticle once ...pop a bigger verticle twice...pop an oxer but with the front rail as a cross twice, pop a square oxer once, put it up/widen it and pop it...possibly pop a very upright verticle to finish before i go in for my round - jumps will vary in size depending on class i am doing...

is that the kind of thing you wanted?

PS. oh and for jump off warmups, i just pop a verticle and an oxer once each, but with a more forward canter.

Not sure if this helps, but it also depends on your horse - temperament and age etc - my mare is 18 yrs and can get very tight and tense if I'm not careful (I do unaffiliated dressage with her). I get on 1/2 hr before my test and spend most of it quietly loosening her up long and low in walk, trot and then canter (do get some odd looks when I'm cantering on long rein) to get her supple and swinging through back etc. The last 10 mins are spent bringing her together and 'increasing the power from behind' with lots of transitions. We usually end up in the top 4, so it seems to work with her. The warm-up for the second test is shorter and the amount I do depends on the gap between the two tests and work required. Hope this helps...
