My dog RINGO (Westie) would have been 16 today and fit and heathy, but he died last August from choking on a peice of chicken (not a chicken bone - just chicken)
I just would like to warn anyone that gives there dogs leftovers from there lunch. I always give my dogs the waste meat from our meals as I hate waste, I have always done this so this day was no different, Ringo was a very greedy dog and I had 2 other dogs aswell Ringo's sister and a lab. He snatched his peice and ran into the living room to eat it in peace, next minute he was wretching, I took him out to the garden to be sick but then realised it was little more serious his tounge was going blue and he was losing consioness (sorry spelling) I hung him upside down whilst screaming histarically, then put him in the car and drove like a maniac to the closest vets and he died 1 minute before we got there. The vet removed a large peice of chicken from his throat which I purposely didnt cut too small to avoid him swallowing it whole.
I killed my dog and will never forgive myself, I had him cremeated the next day and have him in a kasket in my room and he will be buried with his sister when she dies, she is now 15.
R.I.P RINGO xxxxx

Poor Ringo! RIP.

My dogs are fed raw chicken carcasses and flesh but I steer clear of all cooked foods, its not what they were 'meant' to eat.

Sorry for you loss!

Please dont blame youself it really is not your fault. Its purely accidental. People choke to death never mind dogs and we know to chew our food properly

Sadly a freak accident

Very sorry about your little dog and DONT blame yourself

Ditto, its not your fault. You're right RG, a man choked to death on pork at the Pembrokeshire hunt ball.

Oh goodness how sad- don't blame yourself.. as you said you didn't cut it so it wouldn't be swolled whole... unfortunatley greedy doggy decided to anyways!!

This was not your fault.... HUGS and thank you for the warning. xxx

Thank you for all your kind words. I will always remember the little guy he was the best. He was still so fit at 15 1/2 and seemed to young to die. I just hope it doesnt ever happen to anyone else.
Thanks Again!!!

What a sad story. You are in no way to blame, and feeding cooked meat to dogs is perfectly normal. I have heard of dogs choking on hide toys, which are designed specifically for dogs! Bits can come off apparently. Anyway, freak accidents happen in all areas of life. You most certainly did not kill your dog!
