A warning to anyone clipping this season, please be aware of a new spray product on the market, which I have seen causing damage to clippers and blades, causing extreme overheating of blades and premature failure to clippers. Over the last few months I have noticed numerous blades coming in to my workshop for sharpening, with signs of extreme heat and a funny greenish/yellowish tinge to the steel. Also several clippers with extreme overheating symptoms and burnt out bearings and drive bushes. As far as I am aware the product is being sold as "Sure Slide" clipper lubricant and it is claimed to be "A smooth, clean translucent coating imparts low friction capability onto metal clipper blades reducing friction, heat and prolonging the longevity of blade wear"
USE IT AT YOUR PERIL, AS AN ENGINEER AND OBVIOUSLY IN MY OPINION, THIS PRODUCT IS A TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE LUBRICANT AND CAUSES DAMAGE TO BOTH BLADES AND CLIPPERS. I have been informed by an associate in the trade, that allegedly the company who sells it, have withdrawn it from sale, however it is still being sold on E Bay and may crop up elsewhere.
Please please please, remember to buy your clipper oil, from the people who make the clippers!!! At least they have to stand by their products...and produce functional lubricants, this stuff is actually worse than WD40 and that has destroyed enough clippers over the years, lets hope this stuff vanishes very quickly, as only today i quoted a customer of mine over £130 repairs to her machine due to its use. Please note, the above information is my opinion, based on 15 years repairing clippers and sharpening blades, so I hope it saves a few of you some big expense.
