Last night at around 9pm 4 suspicious men where seen parked outside the entrance to my field in a 4x4 towing a horsebox, they where looking at the horses. When questioned by my neighboring farmer they said they where looking for the local feed merchants as they wondered if it was still open (this was at 9PM!). They where in a Grey/Silver 4x4 possibly a Mercedes Registration HV54 EWT or V.

We are near you- recently came back from a hack (yard had nobody on it, but there were people in a flat and a bungalow on the property) to find 2 men wandering around, one may possibly have just come out of one of the stables, and when i asked 'can i help you?' they said they were looking for directions, didnt ask me for any directions and swiftly left.

Also, i know its probably of no significance as its an old wives tale, but we had wind plaits in one well groomed horse (welsh d X tb so fairly stocky, incredibly pretty and long flowing mane, other horses on the yard are very fine so she is the odd one out), owner took them out the day they were found and they were back in the following day. I am putting them down to rubbing something, but everybody is keeping an eye out.

I have reported this to the police, but as usual they where not interested! I was given a crime ref and told they would make a record of it.

I have also reported this to Surrey and Hampshire horsewatch. Hampshire horsewatch where very helpful, but I have still not heard back from Surrey.

Don't worry about the wind plaits but remove any tack etc back home. Tack, energisers anything easily sold will be what they were looking for. Very unlikely to have been looking for horses unless you have nicely marked shetland/coloured cob mares & stallions. Tack/equipment thefts are very, very common. Horse thefts, even of more the more vulnerable types described earlier, are very rare.
