Despite the bitter cold over the weekend, we had 13 degrees here in the sun last Friday and it hovered around 9 today now the snow is gone where I am.

Mine have been out 24/7 This winter, only coming in on odd random nights when it was v wet etc.
This afternoon 2 out of 3 of mine had grass glands up when they came in for me to ride NF and check/snack all of them after. No change to grazing, but on my sandy top fields the grass is definatley on the march..... NF's were quite pronounced!

Just warning those with potential lami phone ones to be on the look out

I noticed on Friday my horses ignored the hay in the field to eat grass they have not done that in months, it was also 9 degrees here today and even after the snow at the weekend my fields are looking greener.

Thanks for the warning TFF. My two are now in during the day now as DP is on the at risk lami register and has been slightly footie for a few days. Wasn't sure whether it was the frozen ground or new grass coming through but if it is the grass I may have to move them back on to their tiny winter paddock which will severely restrict his scoffing capacity.

My 2 minis didn't go to their hay tonight, both just wandered off, so I nipped slowly back up the field and shut off the top paddock and then removed their mini nets - leaving them furious :D especially when they found that NF was tucking into a net in the big field shelter :)

Mine has gone down a hole in his girth in the last 2 weeks. Which is great news as it means a reduction in my feed bill is on its way!

My big mare has had grass *mumps* several times already, over the past months jan and feb and sometimes huge so she could not flex in schooling. Though not a lami risk mare, my boy is and got his first flare up last year about this time. The gelding a lami sufferer does not get grass mumps at all, Grass is def starting and we see a tinge of green over the resting field. I check boys feet morning and evening, so it is that time, everyone check feet daily when picking out feet. Let's not let this horrid disease claim another horses life this year.
