Warning if you live near dorking

If you need to travel over Ranmore hill (which has been cleared) do not under ANY circumstance go over White Down (the cross roads back down to Abinger Hammer). 8 cars including my friends were stuck there last night and had to be left.

Every single car has been broken into and vandalised. What utter *******s. My poor friend is very very upset and is now having to sort out police/insurance and no car.

I have now been told that this happens EVERY time there is snow and there is a well known local community who think its great fun to go up and attack and steal from the cars that are stranded there.

So do not go up there. Even the heavy duty landrovers were struggling. I have to try to get up to meet the AA when they (very hopefully) retrieve friends car and will do so early pm. I won't risk towing it even though mine is a jeep and hers is a Ford Ka.

She was lulled into a false sense of security having come back from Effingham as that had been cleared. There was no sign saying that way had not or she could have gone down another route.

I despair about the society we live in frankly, what a foul thing to do to people. We are gradually sinking into a mire of lawless, feckless, a.......h..s who seem to have no moral compass whatsoever. Unfortunately they are not likely to be caught and so will carry on doing whatever they want. What a shame.
 
spent the afternoon up there. They had smashed the rear and drivers window. Car was very tricky to retrieve but can't say enough nice things about the very laid back and charming McAllisters retrieval man (insurance had to send him out - AA had at least a 24 hour wait). Big fingers up to the rude South African man (can you tell I am annoyed) who ran over the police sign, through the tape, lied and told us he hadn't seen it (when we had replaced it all when we went through with the police sanction) then didn't even wait to let me out as he charged past us once the recovery vehicle was out of the there. Not only was he rude and a liar, if we hadn't gone back up and then put back all the police signs... some other poor wotsit would have got stuck down there as all the other roads are clear..
 
Hello!! your back now then.. she was very very upset but little Ka was packed off to be kept in a safe compound last night and we retrieved all her equine gear and boots.

The car immediately in front of her Ka (it was a focus) had had a rope tied around it to the tree to slop it sliding down the hill. Recovery man rang friend later - another landrover over on its side so he had a very long journey home!
 
Pat said she'd heard from someone else about this and a car abandoned down there has been burnt out! So awful that someone would do that!
