Does anyone put signs up in / even outside a tack room saying that the tack is postcode marked, don't bother stealing it? Is postcoding really a deterrent or do they still steal the tack but ditch it when they find out?
My tack is marked but I often wonder if it would still go anyway if the yard was broken into and we're very close to a recent theft...
Any thoughts?

my saddles are microchipped and I'm hoping that with the new rule on microchipping all foals from 2008 thre will be more chip readers around to be used - including the Police

there is a tag for your saddle if it's microchipped but in the dark by torchlight are the thieves likely to see it - don't somehow think so

I've used an engraver to put postcode on stirrup irons and bits

No we have no post marked tack as our local police dont exactly advertise this service to help us... in fact the first we heard about it was in the local free rag where they advertised they they had been given funding... There was no local contact number or anything....

Not a lot of good really.... We even had a close neighbour that had her stables nicked so our local police are not exactly equine security friendly!

I've had my saddle marked by Surrey Police, so it has their name, phone number and my unique ref number on , stamped into the leather.

I keep my saddle at home , though I used to have a 'these horses are freezemarked' sign up on the gate so would put up similar one for tack if necessary.

But did they come back and do the yard again once you had replaced everything?(usual scenario) or did they realise they were stuck with a load of hot tack they were going to struggle to sell unless it went over the water and not bother coming back

i didn't get redone , however , i waited 2 months before replaceing the trailer & have left the tack room not looking like its very secure & only low value items in there now

all's well me thinks

however..... about 5 weeks after the robbery the builders started work on my house , a few weeks ago one of them said to me , are you selling your horse? no i say why , oh its just that not long after we strated there were two southern sounding women came to your yard one day & said they were looking to buy a horse
