A quick warning.

Our yard was broken in to last night.

They took all of the saddles and a number of bridles plus various other bits and pieces and conveniently used the yard land rover as a get away vehicle.

The yard is near Consett.

I'll post details of saddles, etc when I gather all the info from various owners on yard - you never know someone might come across them.

Does anyone know of any sales in the local area in the forthcoming weeks?

There are a lot of horse sales wich usually include tack too at York livestock centre this month. See the YLC website for the dates! Good luck recovering them all!

Be very careful at Holmfirth. I went looking for my stolen saddle there a few years ago - both the police and the local council officer advised me to steer clear if I valued my safety. It is 99% gypsy dealers and is not a legal sale, in that no veterinary officer etc. is present. I didn't find my saddle, although I did see one that was clearly stolen - it still had the hairy and greasy numnah and girth attached! If you do go, try you hardest to put blinkers on and take no notice of the poor horses and ponies - it is heartbreaking.

Sorry to hear about your tack. Thanks for letting us know though. I have just texted my friend who keeps her horse near Consett to let her know.

Will let you know if either of us hear anything.

Thanks for posting this - reminds me to be vigilant! Hope the scumbags aren't heading this way.

Sorry about your tack though - hope you are insured + can replace it quickly.

We've now heard the land rover was then taken and used to take a trailer and quad from another yard and was found in Bishop Auckland, unfortunately no sign of the tack or culprits. Although a yard up there were approached and offered a number of saddles.

Probably futile but the stuff taken icluded:

17 1/2" Black Euroriding Opal event saddle N/M
17" medium/wide lovett and GP in black
17" brown champion leather saddle m/w
17" spring tree havannah GP saddle with distinctive semi circle patch on knee flap seam
17 1/2 " Bates Caprilli in rich brown with stubben girth and leathers
17 1/2" old style bates GP saddle, XXXW in two tone brown (lighter colour very unusual)
17 1/2" black wintec saddles with cair x 2
17 " brown wintec
17 1/2" Albion K2 black, medium saddle
17" Maxam saddle M/W with fish inserts
17" black medium Kes saddle

Also, brown wintec bridle with martingale and gag bit (new)
Cottage Craft leather bridle in brown with rope design on noseband, with copper eggbutt
Black cob size Jeffries hunter bridle with full cheek, copper peanut bit

Please if you come across any suspicious saddles please take a look, you never know.
