Hindsight says I should've taken a photo...

D has what originally looked like a piece of dried mud just behind his nostril. It's still there over a week later and I am pretty certain it's not mud but I haven't picked at it in case it is actually "something" and I make him sore.

I know that it's probably a wart but it could also be a sarcoid and I'm sure there's a whole host of potential "others" that my horse could have conjured up to injure my bank balance. He's bright and happy in himself otherwise, so I'm not immediately concerned.

I'm thinking I'll ask YO when the next yard visit is and get it checked then, but in the mean time I should take a photo and measurement, then I can keep an eye on any changes? I think I should also check elsewhere as although I've not noticed anything thus far, he does have a full winter coat. Am I right that prime sarcoid areas are face/ears, armpits, sheath and tail?

Am I missing anything?

How old is he and are there any youngsters about? My gelding, at the grand old age of fourteen caught juvenile warts from my youngster. I can only guess he hadn't had them before. He does have sarcoids and has had since he was about six.

It's not a tick, or bit of thorn that's gone scabby? I'd take a photo for reference, just in case and maybe send it to your vet and ask whether they think it's worth a closer look now, or wait and see.

Could be baby warts! They are usually like pimples and hang out in groups!

Definitely take a photo and keep an eye on it for changes - tbh sarcoids can pop up anywhere, don't panic yet :)

He's almost 24yo, and the ponies either side have both been there for months/years, but that doesn't mean that he isn't coming into contact with youngsters in the field.

I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow and get some photos, I'm 99% sure it's scabby rather than a tick :)
