I have an eight year old mare who a few weeks ago developed several small warts around one edge of the corner of her mouth.

They are very similar to those that I have seen in youngsters - that are usually on the muzzle.

They are not bothering her, and do not seem to be changing.

My question is do you think I should get the Vet to look at them, or should I treat them like those on youngsters and leave them to go in their own time.

Anyone had any experiences with these? Thank you.

Hmmmmmm. The masses of juvenile warts that youngsters often develop are the result of an immature immune system and they go of their own accord with no treatment whatsoever. But with an 8 year old and only on 1 side of the mouth I'd be a bit more suspicious. I wouldn't panic though - she may have liked the look of something that either she hasn't tried to eat before or that meant she had to stick her head in a brambly patch to get at. I'd keep an eye out for any other signs that her immune system is a little weak eg coughs and colds that don't clear up, minor scrapes and bumps that take an age to heal etc etc. She'll probably be fine.
