Did you see/hear about the lady that was leaning over the fence in the warm up arena and someone's horse went mental and kicked her and broke her arm?

How horrible for her, apparently not even really very horsey, just watching a friend. The girl who's horse did it just sat there like a lemon, didn't even apologise

Well, very unfortunate for the lady in question, but you have to ask what the hell was she doing leaning over the fence in the first place

I was in that same warm-up a couple of weeks ago and there was some complete moron standing on the track side of the practice fence while his wife / daughter / spawn of satan was jumping it. No word of a lie, he was stood right in the middle of the track....while i was cantering towards him...didn't move...even when i came to a halt 1 stride away !

I really do think the time has come to put a steward in the vicinity of the warm-up and 'police' it in some way

That sounds awful, but i have to agree with Rambo on this one. I noticed that at Royal leisure.....seemed like there were too many people standing by the warm up fences, and i like to use the gap between the fences to do changes of rein, yet always had to pull up as no one seemed to move out of the way!

Intimidation in the practice arena really bugs me. I don't have a 'special friend' to help put the jumps up etc so I hate it when you find the other 4 people warming up with you have theirs and hog the practice fence so you don't get a look in - rant over!!

How awful to be kicked by a horse when you're standing OUTSIDE the arena.

Someone got kicked at Golden Cross the other day when helping load a horse. It kicked her hand I think, she was in agony. The ambulance were parked almost next to her so were there quick, but it was horrendous nevertheless

I probably didn't put that very well, she was leaning on the fence, rather than over it.
Thinking about it, being non horsey she wouldn't have thought to step back out of the way when a horse was bucking etc just by the track

One of the reasons I stopped showjumping was the horrible warm up and a horse that kicked, even with a red ribbon in his tail people would still ride up behind me really close

I'm sorry...it isn't just a SJ'ing problem. The worst warm-up i have EVER experienced was a local Riding Club one

There's good and bad wherever you go....at least in BSJA, once you get out of the carnage that is BN / Disco, then the warm-up empties a little
