OH and I were talking this weekend and agreed that we were settled enough since the move for me to start looking for a new horsey. We discussed budget etc and I was soooo excited. Started looking on the net and scouting what was around then ......................................................................... My car blew a head gasket (sp)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fingers crossed it can be fixed cheaply, but can't get part for at least a month. Can't really go look at horses without it (I don't think I'd get very far on a bicycle). And if the head is warped(????) then I might need a new car which could take a bite out of horse budget. Feeling really grumpy

Sorry if this sounds moany, but have been waiting for a long time and only got the car back last week from 6 weeks off the road. Just seems like one thing after the next at the mo.
Oily Rags if you get this far (it's all I've got to offer at the mo!)

Oh dear - get rid of the car!!! Head gasket isn't usually cheap as far as I know. I had numerous problems with my car last year it was one thing after another (not head gasket though!) got everything fixed and the something else went which was going to cost another £800 to fix (I'd already spent over £800 on it) decided to cut my losses and trade it in and have got myself a new car (they managed to talk me into a new 'deal' on one of their 4x4s - what can i say, i am sucker for a shiny new car! My bank account's not so happy though)

if the block is damaged then you can always get it skimmed...the whole lot shouldnt cost more than £100.....however it does depend on the car!!

If the head is warped you can have it skimmed which makes it cheaper than a new head unit. What a blow- don't you just hate cars?

Mine broke months ago and I've not managed to replace it yet - it's RUBBISH!

My cam belt tensioner went a while back and had to get a new head. Went to the lcal scrap yard and took one off another car for £80 and hubby and eldest lad fitted it. Car was off the road for about a week or so.
Judging by the prices I've read on here I think I was rather lucky
