Went for a ride out today with OH who had his own horse many years ago that he used to tootle about on, anyways he said he wanted to learn to canter, minutes later, as we round the corner I see one of our horses has jumped the fence and is careering about spooking all other horses on the yard (no surprise there from the little madam) so with cries from me of 'Race ya!' and cries of 'Oh sh...!' for OH, he learnt to canter :). Job well done I say. I'm a meanie says he. What says you?

Disclaimer: Do not try this at home I am a trained professional in being mean to OHs.

I'm assuming he stayed on, so, no - you're not a meanie.

Now he's got a feel of it, you'd better watch out, fellas generally are a bit more gung ho and he might be giving you a run for your money before you know it.

Well done him :D

And no, I don't think you were being mean :D

I had a slightly similar incident. I bought a horse straight of the race course many years ago. A girl at my yard insisted on trying to 'race' me with her fat cob everytime we hacked out. Knowing it would probably end up in an out of control free for all, I used to hold him back. I heard a wee rumour around the yard that he was too much for me and I was ****ting myself.
Oh how I had the last laugh... Cue big field. Off we went nice and collected and then I found 5th gear! :D All I heard was: ****! ****! steady! Stop! Stop! STOP! My lad pulled up no probs, being the professional he was, she did another lap of the field in tears :D
She never came out with me again, ha ha.
