Sorry, another GN thread.

John Smith's have built up a bit of a frivolous blokish type image with their clever adverts. But this years GN (I didn't watch last years) has tainted this for me and next time I am in the supermarket buying beers for the boys, it just won't occur to me to pick up the John Smiths as I now associate it with horse deaths, etc.

So, if you were John Smiths Marketing Director, would you carry on with the sponsorship?

I'm sure they did their research.

Any company who wants to sponsor will be aware of who they are becoming involved with.

At the end of the day they sponsored all 3 days of racing. If you have seen the pictures from Aintree or watching it on tv then you would know that all you can see is John Smiths. One of the stands has 2 semicircular fronts for lack of a better word and these both have a HUGE canvas John Smiths beer can draped down them. It is a phenominal sight! All you see is green!

Then you also get the fact that BBC are not allowed to advertise any brands or products formally and this puts John Smiths in the plum position to exploit that by not even letting anyone else get a toe in the door of the meeting.

I do however think that John Smiths will lose out in the future now that Channel 4 are taking over the coverage as they won't be able to monopolise the meeting. There will be sponsors here, there and everywhere flying about. And most annoyingly an ad break every 10mins for bloomin Paddy Power! I actually wouldn't be surprised if half way through the National itself there is an ad break in the future! They should have left it with the BBC.

I wouldn't drink that ***** regardless of what they sponsor....didn't even know they were the sponsors tbh.

No it hasn't done any harm to John Smiths and the BBC wasn't interested enough in racing to put a decent offer in and I for one enjoy the Channel 4 racing every Saturday at lest we get racing and I can do my ironing in the morning watching Morning Line and they put extra days on in the week for the big meets. Clare Balding I won't miss but the blokes I will.

I like Clare Balding as she is better than some of the other female eejits you see in sports. Pretty faces in skirts - talent = female sports presenters or at least some of them!
