Hi
Right new horse. Had bruised sole so was lame for a while and decided on yard managers advise to long rein him for a wk just walking then start a bit of trotting in the 2nd wk. Help him build muscle and strength before putting my weight on him. (He was being ridden prior to lameness.) So had 2-3 wks off in all. We have also introduced build up cubes last week to help put some needed weight on. Now at end on 2nd wk of long reining I rode him for 1st time yesterday around 30 min in school easy walking and a couple of trots. All was fine
Today tried small road hack he is only 6 and got very worried at traffic etc so took him back before anything got out of hand. Took him back in school. He went down to roll staright away. Slap head as I remember his previous owner warned me he would try that.
Saddle fine phew. Jumped on did same as yesterday walking a few trots 45 min. Took into yard and untacked. Put him in stable to put tack away (he was very warm under saddle sun was hiding but still warm day) and returned to find him down rolling on concrete floor as bed wasn't down gets up paws bedding down rolls again and again but sounds uncomfortable groaning. Uhoh
Another owner arrives and agrees it looks iffy Call yard manager who says shes on way cal vet if he goes down but keep him up and walking. She feels hes tucked up and uncomfortable in gut but he seems to settle and after a while and talking to vet on phone goes back in stable and seems fine. Poo normal has had a drink no more rolling.
Vet suggests stopping the build up cubes till hes working harder? No feed tonight just keep in stable plenty of water and hay. Stayed 3hrs after and he seemed back to normal.
Any suggestions am I just paranoid Manager def felt he was cramped up but felt if it was colic it would kick off in nxt couple of hrs which it didnt. (touch wood)
Sorry its a long one Any ideas ??
