Just wondering how you all washed your bits??

I'm a bit of an odd one, as i put the bridle on my head and chuck the reins, martingale and nose band over my head and then just grab the hose, put it between my legs, and them wahs the bit like that.

and then go over it with a clean sponge and dry it with a cloth.

i get ab bucket of warm water, take up the noseband, reins etc. then put in the bit and let it soak. then take it out and make sure everything is clean, go over with a sponge and tie up the bridle

Take mine off the bridle and wash it at home in the sink!

I know someone said how nice they come up after being through the dishwasher, but I haven't tried it. Yet!

I wash mine every time I ride. I keep a bucket with a few inches of water in it in the tackroom (changed once a week), then when I take the bridle off, I drape it over the edge so just the bit's in the water. Leave it there while I finish messing around with the horse, then hang the bridle up on its peg & wipe the bit over with a towel kept for the purpose.

If I've been anywhere in the lorry ie lesson / comp etc so the bit has crusted over on the way home, I take the bit off the bridle, chuck it in the water & fish it out & wipe it the next day.

Can't believe it when people ride in crusty bits...fast track to a sore mouth???

I just move all the leather out the way and jet the bit with the hose!
I do it every time i ride, cant be nice having leftover food all over the bit next time you put it on your horse!

Wash it every time I ride, went on a riding holiday where the yard seemed to find that strange!

My yard everyone does, and every evening all the bridles are inspected (RS Livery Yard) and bits are cleaned if they are found dirty. I always untack then go and dunk my bit in a bucket scratching any nasty stuff off with my fingernails, then when my bridle gets oiled I soak my bit as well

a quick dunk in the nearest bucket of water and then a proper clean when I do my bridle..(not very often..about once a year!!)
