Washing traveling boots..

In all seriousness they will be fine being hand washed, use a sponge on any muddy bits. Always wash and dry boots (and rugs for that matter) with Velcro straps done up where possible. They will last far longer that way
 
I'd pop them in the washing machine as it's so much easier. So long as you put them in something they should be fine! As WelshD says though, make sure the velcro is done up first.

Otherwise, I'd soak them in a bucket of hot soapy water for a bit, then give them a good sponge.
