We are on our 2nd washing machine of 18 months - i have been sworn under threat of death not to wash horse cloths (used for drying horses legs), horse bandages, numnahs etc.

So i brought one of those orange bags that is supposed to keep in all the horse hair !- put in two numnahs - (desperatly needed for a comp last sat) and then did a "white shirt" wash afterwards.....

Other half phones me today - he is at work - and trying to get into the docs - he had gone all itchy and his skin is red and coming up in small lumps.... he is obviously allergic to something and he is quite worried.........

Good news - no doctors appointments until Tue - bad news - do i tell him or just re wash the rest of his shirts !

Just re wash shirts........there's no need for him to have a paddy at you then

Ha ha! My friend washed her grey horses numnahs and boots in the washing machine and had planned to rinse the machine out. But before she had time OH put in his black police uniform in machine when came out looked like he had been rolling in a pile of white hair! Ooops!

Jillygem - love that tale !

Just before i was banned i had done 3 washes of numnahs and then did a white shirt wash.

I got a call from other half and he said "have you been washing your horse gear" - i said NO of course not darling.

Erm he says - are you having an affair then -as i am bald and you are blonde and these hairs are short and brown.....

lol,i shouldnt laugh!!Dont tell him just rewash his shirts!!Do you give your washer an empty cycle after you have washed horse things??i do and never have any hairs left over

Put all her stuff in to do a sneeky wash while he is at work- manage to get it dried and back in the yard before he gets home- only for him to choose the ONLY time he feels he can actually load the machine himself- stuffing it with black work trousers!!

EEKK- when he pulled it out it was COVERED!!

I have bought those bags with velcro at the top now- brilliant invention and he has 'allowed' me to continue ONLY if i use the bags!! xx

When I wash horse numnah's and bandages etc I always make sure I do OH 's clothes after, as I don't want horse hair all over my clothes!!!

Horses complain when I wash OHs stuff before theirs!!! JOKE !!

Got so fed up with not being able to fit rugs into my 5kg house machine I bought a cheap 8.5kg last year and put it in the garage. Its been a god send as we have 6 horses I do more washing for them than for the family, even reproof the turnout rugs, the machine has paid for itself twice over

Gosh - This post has just reminded me I was supposed to bring a summer sheet & set of bandaged home with me to wash tonight.

Boyfriend is allergic..........But as a paramedic does several night shifts a month ( ;-) )

On these nights I do my 'horse washes' in secret and run the machine empty before his arrival in the morning.

Please no one tell him!!!

I bought a practically new machine for £ 5 from a woman who was emigrating and hubby has set it up in the garage. Hurrah!

I bring home a bag of washing and he washes it in the horsey machine for me. It's wonderful lol!

ETS He washes it because I HATE spiders and he goes through it for me. What a sweetie!

martlin - I have lived my my OH for nearly 2 years and the only washing I do is horse bits when he is on nights....Couldn't even tell you how to turn our hoover on.

He is fabulous, once a week he scrubs the house top to bottom - I am not allowed home!!

He moves all furniture, bed wardrobes, sofa....And cleans behind the lots...... Bless him!!

ha well I wash my stuff at OHs in a bag.
my stupid flat mates at mine put a complaint in to the office about hair on their clothes.
didnt even speak to me first.
so i got a snotty letter from the office saying i 'had to wash' my stuff at a laundrette!!!!!AND i would have to pay for maintainance on the washer!!!!!???

If any of you secret washers have time to let the machine dry out inside, then stick the nozzle of the hoover in there - that gets all the hairs out! Don't seem to have a problem with ours, although have dog and cat stuff to wash too - I do brush them all first with a rubber brush to get the worst off though! Maybe everything we wear is permanently hairy so we don't notice

OH has very muddy offroading stuff so he can't complain about horse stuff! Our machine is years old though and seems to cope with it all no problem.

I shake and brush off the numnahs thoroughly before washing. But then I'm also anal about rinsing bits of plates before they go in the dishwasher (both machines are under the sink in the utility, so it's easy). I also clean the filter out regularly.
Can recommend Miele machines BTW, bit more expensive but good on longevity

This thread is v funny.

We have a machine outside for the muddy/hairy stuff.

So since my OH has a shooting business and spends most of the winter lying in ditches etc waiting for birdies to fly over, I put HIS stuff in the machine outside and my horses stuff in the inside machine.

Afterall, I wouldnt want my horsy stuff going in the same machine as his yucky stuff........

hee hee - very funny!!!

I've got an old machine outside. The bearings have gone so it makes a helluva noise. Can't use it after about 9pm otherwise it would keep the neighbours kids awake

I would love a washer in the garage - but my other half belives that stables are for horses, and garages are for cars, and bikes and greasy oilly things - have more chance of putting it in the hall - which is where my tack lives - cos he wont even allow me to put up saddle racks in the garages.

Funny story though - he has an open top race car and i had got soaked on a hack - he was out - so i put my wet saddle on the back of the roll cage and hung up the bits of bridle etc - he went white when he saw it and i got a very firm but quite "GET IT OFF" - no shouting or anything else - so i dont think he minded that much (ha ha ha)

My dad either doesn't notice or doesn't bother kicking up a fuss because he knows we'll carry on washing horse things anyway. TBH the dogs can often be found sleeping on piles of clean washing so he'd be hard pushed telling the difference between dog hair (black, white, blue/grey and brown) and horse hair (bays and greys). In theory we rinse brushing boots with the outside hose because the mud, grit and sand doesn't do the machine much good
