Wasps

No,we've had three nests treated and several friends/liveries have said they've got nests at home that've been treated this year. We seem to still have quite a few around-think there must be a nest(s) we've missed somewhere:(

After getting stung on Monday by the critters, I can say they are still about! I blame the neighbours whom unbeknown to me, had a nest treated at 1pm, just as I was walking to my front door to get my lunch. I didn't stand a chance, just so grateful they went for me and not the kids. The poor dog got stung too!!

Was at a wedding recently and all the bridal party with the exception of one bridesmaid and the groom were stung by wasps during a photographic shoot in a woodland area...!

Poor old wasps , strange creatures, I shared a room with hundreds of them ,for about a month. We all got on fine ,nobody got killed and nobody got stung.

Nice accommodation? When I was young Bees moved into old gaspipes in our old house, Went into my bedroom which was crawling with them - but left once the mad hummmm got to me.....scarey

yeah, I was working nights at Schipol and the best room in the house was already tennanted by wasps living in the chimney outside. They used to crawl in and not be able to get out ,so i used to let them out. Maybe it made me some sort of waspy hero so they left me alone:D

I've treated a few this season mainly where the wasps were making life near impossible for the horses or the staff, most notably one in a yard where you couldn't get in the tack room and another a hole in the ground right by the sand school fence where they were stinging anyone (and any horse) that came near!

Bloomin' loads on the yard I'm on, YO too cheap to get someone in though!! No less this year to prev years here, worse than last year even.

Got one in the loft which they access through a hole close to our bedroom window - bit of a nuisance as they make such a noise, and loads come in the bedroom too.

Dont think we have got a hornets nest this year thankfully!

i was moving a pile of conifer branches piled up by Gardner when all of a sudden one of the B**** got me .

I waited till evening and used tractor to drag the branches up the field.

the following day it was obvious where the nest was, in the ground under the branches that had been there, i went up to diy shop bought some nest killer and that evening almost used half the bottle, Gave me gr8 satisfaction doing that,

its now a few days after the sting and its still itchy

If i know where the nest is I WONT leave it i either do it myself in in ground or get exterminator in.

The way I look at it if I don't there will be more next year.
And after they stung my donkey and she reacted really bad I have no sympathy for them. I also love using the bug bad on them electrifying them .:D:D

I would love to see one blown up..
friends used to squirt petrol on

Ithem then use a blow torch pooooof up they went , never saw it tho :(

i used a the electric sting remove but its still itchy 4 days later

My OH just took out a nest for me, it was in the wall of the barn right by the school gate so was causing a problem... I got stung on the finger and my whole hand swelled up like a cricket ball!
He had to take the wooden lining out of the side of the barn to get to the nest, part of which I have kept, I love the swirly pattern on the top! :D

We have a wasps nest in our field next to my dad's allottment he has created to grow veggies etc. He was going to destroy it, but I then told him that wasps are good for veggie patches as they search and destroy veggie patch destroying bugs, so in fact they are good news for him. No one has been stung yet, pretty sure none of the horses have either.

One we think (judging by the state of him) had rolled in an ants nest a couple of years back, he swelled up everywhere, but as he was eating and breathing we left him to it I think (may have given him something) - gave him a nice cool bath, then it rained all night, next day he was back to normal size! :)

Last year I had a "whole life flashed before my eyes" moment when unknown to me the people behind my yard smoked out a wasp nest in their garden. I was mucking out when I heard a droning noise coming closer, at first I thought it was a small plane (my yard is by an airport), then the sky over the yard went black like there was a thundercloud right above me, then I realised it was a mass of wasps and I started to pray!

I think this year has been terrible for wasps. Certainly in my area! I had a nest in one of my stables which has since been treated. I then got stung 10 days ago. I hopped off a horse and the little ba**ard flew up my trouser leg over my riding boots and long socks and stung me on the knee. My trousers have never been taken off so quickly. Anyway after 4 days of ice packs, anti histamine and Eurax cream it started to subside before flaring up again. I now have a hole in my knee. I will never tell a child to sort it's self out if stung by a wasp again. I was in agony and had a knee the size of a football.
