One of my friends is having a "horse communicator" out to read her horses and asked if I would be interested. I said yes as am curious to see how spot on they would be with my horse but the more I think about it, the more I think I would be wasting my £45 which would pay for the farrier or a good chunk or the back lady or I could buy several bags of feed, two round bales of haylage or lots of bales of shavings!

Are these people legit? I mean, my horse tells me already what she likes and what she doesn't (it's black or white with her!!) and can already her read body language. Maybe just pay myself £45?

Have people here had good experiences with communicators or am I just being cheap and cynical? :p

We had a livery that swore by one. She was pretty well known and had been on TV. I was in the next stable when she came and have never heard such a load of old balls in my life, but livery was over the moon with what she had said. She never noticed two major issues either.

I think if it is the sort of money that you can afford to spend on something which may be "just a bit of fun" then go ahead, it is normally pretty harmless and if you are lucky and get someone good you may gain a bit of insight. If it is the sort of money that you can ill afford to lose then I wouldn't bother, there are a lot of charlatans out there and a lot of people don't get much from it.

Some people on my yard have a communicator visit, but I certainly can't afford the prices as it is more than a months DIY Livery!

hmm, to be honest i wouldnt. the only experience i have had is when my boy was gelded he sulked a lot (he is a wuss) and refused to eat so he never got painkiller and antiobiotics and that made him worse. I had the vet back out who gave him a jab and different painkiller. a lady who does crystal reading or something like that, has a young horse and asked if she could come down and see him (although at the time i didnt know she did crystal reading/healing) and she got this crystal out and started holding it over princes back. She said he told her he was in pain and he didnt eat his food because he didnt like bran. He said he would definately eat a carrot if i went and got him one. Needless to say, i nearly pee'd myself when he refused said carrot! Dont go much by it, i know what my horse does and doesnt like and I refuse to pay that amount of money for someone like that.

Right, I think I'll tell my friend thanks but not thanks then as I can't really afford to spend £45 on something I know already when there are other things that I could buy with the money that I KNOW my horse likes! She loves the back lady coming out and falls asleep, she loves the farrier doing her feet- also falls asleep so I guess my horse has already told me what she wants :D

Save. Your. Money.

I have yet to see or hear of any of these 'communicators' who are any more than cold readers. They make quick observations, cast some ambiguous statements & the owner either catches onto the things that apply to them & disregard the rest or gives feedback which allows the communicator to become more accurate.

Derren Brown provided an example of this. He wrote an individual letter to each of a group of people. Every single member of the group was amazed, he had described them so well, felt like he had had read their inner thoughts etc

It was then revealed the letters were not individual but the same set letter that had been given to them all.

thats what made me laugh about this woman. she could see he had bran in his feed and so said he didnt like it yet the poor thing had just had his nuts cut off and he is the biggest wuss in history so I knew what was up with him!

My friends swear by this person and apparently, she has a year's waiting list. They are all happy with their readings so can't knock this person for that as obviously she has happy customers but I'm the type of person who questions everything. I had nagging doubts as soon as I said yes and my gut never lies (and you guys being so sensible have confirmed my nagging gut). If it works for my friends and they are happy, then that is fine but I don't think an animal communicator is right for my horse and I so am going to pass.

LOL, my friend will probably think I'm a miserable cheap old bat but that's OK! :D

Lol she probably will think that but you dont have to do everything everyone else does, its your choice who does what with your horse!

Personally I believe these 'horse communicators' are incredibly good at reading the owners, and have a fantastic 'placebo' effect, particularly on nervous riders who are having problems, however I personally would never ever spend money on it. I can probably guess who this lady is based on your location, and she has been out to friends horses who swear by her... but for me, I'm yet to hear any kind of suggestion it is anything more then the kind of thing done by Derren Brown...

I had a Mctimoney Chiro out who turned out to also be a "communicator" my gelding has a long history of loading problems and I asked what I could do to improve this. Apparently, he either was involved or witnessed an accident where a horse slipped on horse wee in the trailer, therefore if he can smell wee in the trailer/lorry he won't load. Proceeded to gut my trailer and wash every surface with lavender disinfectant. Did it make any difference? No of course not! Lots of other rubbish about how he thinks he's a stallion and how much he loves my partner!

Not something i'd waste my money on again, nothing really rang true.

There is an interesting idea in a book I read about human suggestibility.
When humans volunteer for something be it a psychic reading, a card reading or hypnotism it breaks down our first major barrier....we then WANT it to work. We don't want to be the one it doesn't work for because somehow this segregates us from everyone else.

Add in paying £45 for the experience I would say that makes someone VERY motivated to make the reading work for them :)

I've had it done for my two boys and she read them like an absolute textbook, right down to their funky quirks and mine as well (including singing Christmas songs when I get nervous). This woman had never met me before, and had no access to any information about me or my horses, just a picture of the horse, their names, and how old they were. I found it very interesting and some of the advice she gave me really made a difference. I guess it's down to the individual :-)

sorry but what a load of crap!! most horses would "rather" be doing that if they had their own way!

Sorry, but you are wrong, my arthritic mare often refuses to turn into our drive and head for home, her ears are pricked and she strides out, obviously enjoying being out of the field or barn.
My lad loves nothing more than doing a fun ride or go to the coast, he really perks up when smelling the salt air or sees other horses on a fun ride.
Not all horses enjoy being a field ornament

I agreed to have a session, via picture, for someone who was training to be a communicator, I did not expect much from it, but was amazed! She 'spoke' to my current horse and to others, she had it right about the lot of them. She has had 'conversations' with my mare since, just about always spot on. I have never paid a penny for this and I had no reason to want to believe it (no problems with the mare, nothing to be solved). Each to their own. Mind you I can believe a lot of things, having 'seen' the traumatic memories of some of my clients at work

I know of a 'communicator' who was charging roughly the same amount...except she was doing the readings over the phone after having been sent a photo of said horses!!

The strangest thing is, people were actually paying for her services (including a friend of mine!)

Hmmm! I probably would go for it, id be interested to see if any of it rang true! I suposse it all depends who you get, same as anything there will be good ones and terrible ones! I am intreigued by that sort of thing.... Like claire voyants.... I really want to have a session! ........maybe im just wierd ha! :)

I am undecided about it

My horse's old owner had a communicator out to one of her other horses and as the woman came into the field she looked down the field to where Ebony was calmly grazing and said that she had a red mist and was upset badly over something but as she wasn't there to 'read' that horse she never said any more and the owner didn't push for more info. Not long before that Ebony had reared and gone over onto her rider. A few weeks after this incident she was sent away for retraining. About 3 months after she came back to the yard the communicator came back out and commented that the red mist had gone. When Ebony came back from retraining she was a different horse to the one that went away and much, much calmer than she was previously.

Coincidence? I don't know. To my knowledge the communicator hadn't been given any information about Ebony as it wasn't her the reading was for and she was at the other end of a 12 acre field so we don't think she could have read her body language from her grazing that far away

I didn't believe in this kind of thing until I used one who was completely spot on about absolutely everything to do with my horses past, even though she'd only just met him and didn't even have his name to go on - now have no doubt! I was highly weirded out by it, she was completely accurate down to the time scales and all the minor details... She's an incredible lady and I know other people who have been stunned by her accuracy.
Yes, there are lots of scams around and people pretending to be able to communicate with your horse, but I believe there really are a few gifted individuals out there.

I had a communication done on one of ours a few years ago. He had been sent away for starting some months before and had come back very, very unhappy, he just looked so sad and almost 'broken'. I knew when the distance communication had been done before she told me, he was back to his old self, came striding across the field to us and was so loving, just the way he had been before. He had been upset because he was separated from his mare and foal and worried constantly about them (she didn't know his history), he was worried we would send him away again. She said a few things that didn't make sense to us but a lot of it was spot on. I think if you believe these things are possible then you are more open to believe what is said. We have had readings done on every one of the 'poor' horses that we bought because we didn't know their history, some were good and some were rubbish - sadly because there are so many charlatans about it makes it hard for the genuine ones, and there are genuine ones out there.

I am sure there are genuine communicators but 99.9% are charlatans. They spout out things that the owners want to hear and pick up on the human body language.
some people brought over a top US communicator as nothing was working with their racehorse - he was refusing to race.

She told them all sorts of things from wanting different coloured rugs to more carrots in his feed.

They brought her to visit and she immediately started telling me about one of the horses in the yard. How he was fed up with being galloped and jumped and many other things including that he hated being ridden by men.
This horse was sick at the time with an unknown virus. His coat was dull and his eyes sunken but he was only 4 years old. He had never been galloped or jumped or ridden by anyone but me and, last time I looked, I was definitely female!
when I told her she was totally wrong she immediately added that this was in a previous life!

The trainer of the original horse did all that the horse had said he wanted to no avail.

The horse came to freshen up with us. He was ridden out, taken hunting and after nappy problems were sorted, went back to a different trained and won several races.

Save your money - most of it is common sense anyway - you can tell a lot just from looking at a horse and having a reasonable amount of knowledge about them without being psychic.
